Common Questions About Medicare
When should I enroll in Medicare?
Most people become eligible at age 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) starts three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birthday month, and lasts three months after. Missing this window can result in penalties unless you have other qualifying coverage.
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare and may include added benefits. Medigap plans work alongside Original Medicare to help pay costs that Medicare doesn’t cover. One is not better than the other—they’re just different paths. We help you compare them.
Do I need a prescription drug plan?
Yes, in most cases. Original Medicare doesn’t cover most medications, so you’ll want either a Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage. Not enrolling when first eligible could result in a permanent late penalty.
Can I switch Medicare plans later?
Yes. You can make changes during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7) or during certain Special Enrollment Periods triggered by life events. We’ll help you know what applies to your situation.
Is there a cost for working with BCI Insured?
Never. Our services are free. We’re paid by the insurance companies you choose—not by you—and we never charge consultation fees.
More Helpful Questions We Hear
Can I get Medicare if I’m still working at 65?
Yes. Depending on your employer coverage, you may be able to delay parts of Medicare without penalty. We’ll help you determine what’s best.
What happens if I move to another state?
Some plans travel with you, others don’t. We’ll help you evaluate what needs to change and how to re-enroll.
What if my doctor doesn’t accept my Medicare plan?
That’s a common concern. We’ll help you find plans that include your preferred providers—or explore alternatives.
Can I have both Medicare and Medicaid?
Yes. If you qualify for both, you may be eligible for a Special Needs Plan (SNP) designed for dual-eligible individuals. We’ll walk you through the options.
Is dental and vision included in Medicare?
Original Medicare does not include routine dental or vision. Some Medicare Advantage plans do, and separate supplemental plans are also available.
